Na głos
Listen
What it means
Literally “onto voice.” This phrase means to speak, read, or think out loud so that others can hear. It is the opposite of doing something “w myślach” (in one’s thoughts/silently).
Vocabulary
- głos — voice / vote / sound
- czytać — to read
- głośno — loudly
Grammar note
'Na głos' uses the accusative of 'głos'. Note the difference: 'głośno' means with high volume, while 'na głos' simply means audibly rather than silently.
Cultural context
In Polish elections, 'głos' also means "a vote," but you don't use 'na głos' to describe the act of voting.
