Klęska urodzaju
Listen
What it means
Literally “disaster of abundance.” The paradox of having too much of something — an overabundance that becomes a problem. “A glut,” “too much of a good thing.” Classic example: a bumper harvest that crashes prices and ruins farmers.
Vocabulary
- klęska — disaster, calamity
- urodzaj — abundance, bumper harvest
Grammar note
'Urodzaju' is the genitive of 'urodzaj' — genitive of type/cause.
Cultural context
An agricultural paradox deeply familiar in Polish farming culture — a record harvest can be economically ruinous if prices collapse.
