    What it means

Literally “to go on the bill.” This can be literal, like adding a drink to a bar tab, but it is often figurative. It means that an action (usually a mistake) will be attributed to someone or they will eventually have to pay the price for it.

    Vocabulary

    • rachunek — bill / account / calculation
    • płacić — to pay

    Grammar note

It is almost always used with a possessive pronoun or a genitive noun: "To idzie na **mój** rachunek" (This goes on my account/I'll take the blame).

    Cultural context

'Rachunek' is the word you use to ask for the check in a restaurant: "Poproszę rachunek."
