    What it means

“What the eyes don’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve over.” The Polish equivalent of “out of sight, out of mind” — if you don’t know about something bad, you won’t suffer from it.

    Vocabulary

    • oczy — eyes (plural)
    • widzieć — to see
    • serce — heart
    • żal — sorrow, regret

    Grammar note

Uses genitive after negation: 'nie widzą czego' → 'czego oczy nie widzą'. 'Sercu' is dative — 'the heart doesn't feel regret.'
