Czego oczy nie widzą, tego sercu nie żal
Listen
What it means
“What the eyes don’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve over.” The Polish equivalent of “out of sight, out of mind” — if you don’t know about something bad, you won’t suffer from it.
Vocabulary
- oczy — eyes (plural)
- widzieć — to see
- serce — heart
- żal — sorrow, regret
Grammar note
Uses genitive after negation: 'nie widzą czego' → 'czego oczy nie widzą'. 'Sercu' is dative — 'the heart doesn't feel regret.'
